Our Story

More than a store. A partner for life at home.

Western Health Care started with a frustration caregivers in Calgary and Red Deer knows: the hospital bed comes from one company, the stairlift from another, the compression stockings from a pharmacy across town, and the ramp from someone driving in from out of city. Families end up exhausted before the patient even gets home.

We built one local store that covers the whole journey — from the first phone call after a diagnosis to the day we pick up the rental years later. One team. One number. One file that knows your home, your funding, and your situation.

What Families Say

Real reviews, in their own words.

Verified Google reviews from Alberta families we've helped through hospital discharge, recovery, and aging-in-place projects.

“I recently got a stair lift installed from Western Health Care for my grandmother, and I'm extremely happy with the service. Navi came for the installation. He was very professional, explained everything clearly, and gave a proper demo of how the lift works. The stair lift has really improved my grandmother's mobility at home. Also, the price was much lower compared to other companies, and the quality of the product is excellent.”

“We have been very pleased with all our interactions with this company. All the staff that we spoke to were informative and receptive to our inquiries. We have rented two separate pieces of equipment and even received a refund without asking for one when a rented chair was returned. The gentlemen who delivered each piece were professional and kind. We highly recommend this company.”

“Mylo G was here at our home on 2 occasions to install grab rails and a bed rail. These were installed to assist my husband as he climbs the stairs and to help when he gets out of bed. We were very happy with Mylo's work and we found him to be very friendly and kind. Thank you.”

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about rentals, fittings, installations, and how we work with Calgary and Red Deer families.

1

Getting started

How fast can you do an in-home assessment?

Most assessments are scheduled within 2-3 business days. For hospital discharges or urgent equipment needs, we do our best to be at your home within 24 hours. Call 403-300-2244.

Is the in-home assessment really free?

Yes — completely free, with no obligation to purchase. We make our money when we earn your trust and you choose to work with us, not from upfront consulting fees.

Do I need a referral from a doctor or occupational therapist?

No. Walk in, call, or book an assessment any time. If you do have an OT or case manager on your care team, we work directly with them on paperwork, measurements, and delivery.

2

Equipment & service

Do you rent hospital beds and wheelchairs?

Yes. We rent electric and manual hospital beds (with pressure-relief mattresses), wheelchairs, transport chairs, walkers, knee scooters, patient lifts, and more by the week or month. Delivery, setup, and pickup are available city-wide, usually within the same week.

Do you install stairlifts and VPLs?

Yes. We install straight stairlifts (often in a single day), custom curved stairlifts for landings, and indoor / outdoor vertical platform lifts (VPLs) for porches and split-level entries. Every project starts with a free in-home assessment.

Do you do compression stocking fittings?

Yes — we have a certified compression fitter on staff and carry Sigvaris, Jobst, Mediven, Juzo, and Therafirm in ready-to-wear and custom sizes. Direct billing to most extended insurance plans, AHS coverage for qualifying lymphedema patients.

Do you service equipment after the sale?

Yes — every stair lift, platform lift, elevator, ramp, and bed we sell is serviced by our own Alberta-based technicians. We also service most equipment purchased from other dealers.

3

Funding & coverage

Do you accept AADL, RAMP, SHARP, WCB, or Veterans Affairs funding?

Yes. We help Alberta families navigate AADL, RAMP, SHARP, WCB Alberta, AHS, Veterans Affairs Canada, and NIHB, plus federal accessibility tax credits. We prepare the paperwork; eligibility and approval are determined by each funding organization.

Which extended insurance plans do you bill directly?

Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, GreenShield, Canada Life, Desjardins, Equitable Life, and most other major Canadian providers. If your insurer isn't on the list, ask — we can usually arrange direct billing on request.

What does AADL actually cover?

AADL covers a portion of the cost of hospital beds, manual and power wheelchairs, walkers, bathroom safety equipment, and patient lifts for eligible Albertans. Co-payment amounts depend on income; we walk you through the form when you visit.

4
